Peter Boucher
1965-2005

This page is in memory of Peter Boucher, former member of Montreal punk bands Fail Safe and Les Flokons Givrés. Peter committed suicide on March 9, in Matane, at the age of 40.

Over the past couple of years, he was away from Montreal and the music scene due to multiple drug addiction problems. He died alone, in misery, struggling with schizophrenia.

The following lyrics and music are from a cassette copy of a previously unreleased demo tape Fail-Safe recorded in the fall of 1988. Peter played drums on all these tracks, and wrote the lyrics for 'Missing Words'. Please feel free to download and share this music in honour of Peter's memory.

stay strong,

Iain Cook

Missing Words
words: Peter Boucher. Music: Fail-Safe

You don't know what you're saying
I don't know what I hear
But everything you're saying
Can be taken a million ways
There is no magic mirror
For which words can reflect any meaning

I don't know what I'm saying
I don't know what you hear
But everything I'm saying
Can be taken a million ways

There is no magic mirror
For which words can reflect any meaning
To make sure of all the pictures
That all the words attract
Well I know what I'm thinking
So please listen carefully
There is no way to be sure
It's just the way it is

It's a chance you've got to take
It's a step you've got to make
It's a chance you've got to take
It's a step you've got

There are missing words
There are missing words
There are missing words
There are

Into the shadows in the day
They come at night in dreams and say
What we've been trying so hard to say all day.

Wasted
words: Iain Cook. Music: Fail-Safe

In the beginning
you and i looked into each other's eyes
in the beginning
we opened up each and another's minds
in the beginning
we taught each other just how to fly
in the beginning
we looked into each other's minds

what we thought was love
now we're wasted
just another drug
now we're wasted
we planted our souls
just a pool of mud... wasted
we spent this stolen time
now we're wasted
we lived a million desires
now we're wasted
we burned this candle
just a pool of wax

we chased our dreams down a one-way road
we've come to the edge and we've jumped off the cliff
and now we're falling, and now we're falling, and now we're fallen

we planted our love into a poisoned plot
we watered our souls into a pool of mud
and now we're drowing, and now we're drowning, and now we're drowned

hard, demanding, cold in my heart
battered, too proud, what can i do?
i don't know, what will i find?
i don't know, what will we find?

in the beginning
you and i looked into each other's eyes
what we found, all lies, lies, lies
in the beginning
we did not care to use the time
now everything's gone
with no words to say good-bye.

WHY?
words: Iain Cook, Music: Fail-Safe

Here I am. Where are you?
You left no traces, not a single clue.
You left so quickly, not even a word
Guess you didn't want to be heard

How are you? I'm alive
That doesn't matter now, you left it behind
You left so quickly, not even a word
Guess you didn't want to be heard

Were you mad at the world?
Or were you crazy about yourself?

No rehearsal, no two-bit play
You hung yourself, nothing left to say?
You left so quickly, not even a word
Guess you didn't want to be heard
Were you mad at the world?

All I wanna know is - what did you find?
All I wanna know is - what was on your mind?
All I wanna know is - why?

WHY?

Why? (1988 demo, mp3)
